Are LGBT Rights "Civil Rights"?: Intersections and Disconnections in Movements for LGBT, Racial and Ethnic Equality

The City Bar Association's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Rights Committee will be hosting a forum addressing the intersections and tensions among movements for racial and ethnic equality, on the one hand, and for LGBT rights, on the other hand, from the 1960s to the present. The forum will also address the relationships between communities of color and LGBT communities, and how these relationships affect LGBT people of color, particularly in political and legal contexts. Speakers: LYNN COTHREN Director of Administration at Girl Scouts of the USA; former Special Assistant, Coretta Scott King SUZANNE GOLDBERG Clinical Professor of Law and the Director of the Sexuality and Gender Law Clinic, Columbia Law School DR. MARJORIE J. HILL Executive Director of Gay Men's Health Crisis DARREN HUTCHINSON Professor of Law at American University's Washington College of Law VICTOR M. MARQUEZ President, Hispanic National Bar Association Members of the Association, their guests and all other interested persons are invited to attend. There is no fee for attending the program.
