SUPREME COURT DISMISSES KEY LAWSUIT

Yesterday the Supreme Court dismissed a lawsuit against the private Kamehameha ("Kam") Schools in Hawaii after a settlement was reached between the schools and the student who was denied admission.  Congress has repeatedly recognized the plight of native Hawaiians, Alaskan natives and American Indians, and this dismissal avoids a possible Supreme Court ruling on the status of Native Hawaiians as an especially disadvantaged group.

When you check your local media please see if they present the case objectively and cover the way in which Native Americans and indigenous people have historically been denied opportunities, including access to an ample education.  Also, check to see if the media explains the role of the courts in deciding whether remedial efforts to address past discrimination are acceptable.

If your local media is not reporting on this case, or if it is reporting in a biased and unbalanced way, please contact us and we will help you reach out to the editor and/or reporter.
