What NYU's Brennan Center for Justice is working on
Tuesday, June 10
- Organization: Brennan Center
Here's what we're working on at the Brennan Center for Justice.....
THE LEGAL FRAMEWORK FOR TERRORISM?
This month, the U.S. Supreme Court will hand down decisions in the Boumedienne/Guantanamo and Omar-Munaf/habeas corpus cases, and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals is likely to rule in the Almarri/enemy combatant litigation. Together these decisions will present a blueprint for post Bush era detention policy. Jonathan Hafetz and Aziz Huq are available to discuss the effect of these rulings.
A RETURN TO COMMON SENSE
As the energy and excitement of the primaries fade, it's time to look at what must be done to improve the way our democracy functions. Brennan Center Executive Director Michael Waldman recently shared his thoughts on what should be done on the Ed Schultz show, in this Newsweek article, and on BigThink.com (tomorrow). Waldman, the author of the just-published A Return to Common Sense: Seven Bold Ways to Revitalize our Democracy, and former Director of Speechwriting in the Clinton Administration, is available to discuss how and why we should remove barriers to voting, now - before the November election.
