- Organization: The National Campaign to Restore Civil Rights
NEW YORK, NY- July 1, 2008 –
The National Campaign to Restore Civil Rights is partnering with Laughing Liberally to host an evening of comedy, where we will find some way to laugh about the impact of the rollback of civil rights in the courts. The event takes place at 6:30 PM on July 1st, 2008, at The Tank at 279 Church Street. Comedians from HBO, Comedy Central and the Laughing Liberally National Tour will take the stage at 8:00 to restore civil rights one laugh at a time.
The National Campaign to Restore Civil Rights was created in response to recent federal court decisions that are eroding civil rights protections. The Campaign is made up of a collection of more than one hundred civil rights organizations and numerous individuals who came together to ensure that the courts protect and preserve justice, fairness, and opportunity for everyone. The Campaign focuses on public education and outreach, finding ways to get the message out about the impact of court rulings on our communities, our opportunities and our rights.
Laughing Liberally is part of Living Liberally and is a comedy show that uses humor and laughter to spread understanding of liberal ideas and advance progressive values. From big cities to small towns, in “blue” and “red” states as well as throughout the nation’s electoral battlegrounds, today Living Liberally has grown to 230 chapters in 45 states. Living Liberally clubs create welcoming social spaces around progressive politics and bring together activists, newcomers and everyone in between...even Mayoral candidates and other elected officials. One part Moveon.org and one part Tammany, the club brings the energy of online social networks into the face-to-face world of old-style 19th century bar-room politicking.
