"The Leadership Conference applauds today's historic Senate passage of the Restoring American Financial Stability Act (S. 3217). The Senate bill to reform Wall Street is an enormous victory for ordinary working Americans and their families.

The civil and human rights community is especially pleased with Congress' focus on civil rights protections through the creation of the new consumer protection bureau to prevent the kind of racial and ethnic discrimination that has run rampant for years in the mortgage market and other forms of lending leading up to the financial crisis.

The Leadership Conference will continue to advocate for the strongest financial protections possible for the American people as the bill moves toward final congressional approval."
